The Amhara region, at northwest Ethiopia, was raged by a serious epidemic in the summer of 2005. The illness was Kala-Azar, which is lethal and not previously known in that area. Only in Bura, a 6,000 people rural town, more than 150 people died and many more suffered from the illness.
MSF is an independent humanitarian medical aid agency committed to two objectives: providing medical aid wherever needed, regardless of race, religion, politics or sex; and raising awareness of the plight of the people we help.
